James works primarily in the social services and disability sectors. He specialises in using actuarial analytics to help frame government policy and provide insight into better ways of delivering high-quality, sustainable services to communities.
James has a strong background leading complex analytics projects, with a focus on financial and economic analysis, data linkage, actuarial projections and methods to support government effectively allocate resources.
His recent work includes estimating the economic cost of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability for the Disability Royal Commission. Other recent projects are reporting on whole-of-government expenditure that supports First Nations peoples and reviewing hospital costing methodologies. James says:
“New data analysis is produced in the social and health care sector every day. The reports I find most useful are designed with care – starting with clear objectives, a strong appreciation of context, and considered engagement with key internal and external stakeholders.”
